43 from Wilkins not enough for short-handed Fusion in loss to Kenosha

Delonzo Wilkins scored 43 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, but the Grand Rapids Fusion fell short in the opener of their Fall 2016 IBA Tour with a 143-130 loss to the Kenosha Ballers over the weekend.

The Fusion headed out On The Mitten Road and into Wisconsin for the weekend game with just six players dressed. Randy Jefferson (back), Darrin Nesby (personal reasons), Nate Hollenbeck (personal reasons) and Chuck McLaurin (honeymoon) did not attend the game.

Tied after the first quarter, GR fell behind by four at the half. Trailing late in the game coach Wilkinson’s team played the clock by fouling, which ultimately cost them as the Ballers made their free throws.

Rookie Marcus Fairone scored 26 points and 11 rebounds in his Fusion debut, with veteran Terry Bradshaw adding 22 points and 9 assists.

Grand Rapids continues the Tour next weekend against the Indiana Warriors.
