Brand new Macker Madness to open 2017 season indoors at MSA Woodland in Grand Rapids

Less than one year after it closed its doors to the 47-year history of family fun including roller skating, tennis, lacrosse and soccer, the former Woodland Sports Center (Woodland Skating) returned to the spotlight today when Gus Macker announced that this year’s schedule would open with a one-day indoor tournament in Grand Rapids, MI on April 1, 2017.

We hope to try and make this an annual event.

Coming on the heels of the summer schedule announcement, McNeal listened to the players and made it known to the world that this year’s opening tournament will be played at the MSA Woodland in Grand Rapids, MI, home to Michigan Basketball Academy and Michigan Volleyball Academy.

Gus Macker, Scott McNeal“This is really a response to the Macker Maniacs of all ages who keep asking us to have an indoor tournament, and since “March Madness” will have them all fired up to play and the NCAA Final Four games generating even more excitement, we thought this would be a good way to warm up for our 2017 Gus Macker World Tour,” founder Scott McNeal said in announcing the tournament.

“It’s also spring break season, so the kids should be able to be involved, which gives us that Macker family feel, and the MSA facility is really sweet. By no means are we taking our business model indoors. We hope to try and make this an annual event, but the focus of Gus Macker Basketball will remain on our summer outdoor family three-on-three basketball festivals. We are just going to get everybody warmed up.”

New this year, the players, fans and parents will be able to follow along on their smart phones to experience live game results and bracket updates.
