Fusion calm Windy City

Having to travel south down I-96 to the Windy City on a beautiful sunny, spring day in a van loaded up with coaches, players and equipment is not something that sits well with most teams. When the Fusion took the floor against the Blazers, they must have been looking forward to getting back on the road and getting home to GR to face off against Kenosha during this last playoff push weekend.

The Fusion got another victory, beating the Blazers 137-113. Derrick Brooks excelled with 42 points, 16 rebounds and 4 steals. Nick Waddel added 36 points, 20 rebounds and 6 assists from the frontcourt. Terry Bradshaw went crazy with a triple-double(31/13/10) and ripped 6 steals. Ben Fuller continued his transition to playing the point guard position, adding 15 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals and 8 assists, not bad for the “new guy”. Darren Washington also racked up 8 points, 17 rebounds, 3 blocks and 4 assists.

Coach Marco Wilkinson was happy with the team’s performance, adding “what a well-played, hard game tonight”. This bunch of Fusion players returns from the 2014 IBA Championship team and has really come together to play as a team and understand each others’ strengths and weaknesses. Putting people in the right situations to succeed and keeping them out of places they struggle has been key for Wilkinson’s staff, including assistant coach Deborah Diaz(GRCC WBB).
