The Grand Rapid Drive have reacquired guard Bruce Massey from the available player pool.
Originally drafted by the Springfield Armor (now the Grand Rapids Drive) with the first pick of the eighth round of the 2013 NBA D-League Draft, Massey is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard who played his college ball at Middle Tennessee State.
Massey is a familiar face here in Beer City, USA, he’s played in 18 total games for the Drive over the last two seasons. He has averaged 5.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game in his 56 game D-League career with Springfield, Grand Rapids and Erie.
Massey’s career highs both came in 2014 while with the Armor, scoring 18 points against Delaware on April 5, 2014 and pulling down 12 rebounds on February 7, 2014 against Maine. He also had a career-high 8 steals against Delaware on December 28, 2013.
Massey was originally acquired by the Drive from the available player pool in March 2016. In December 2016, he was traded to the Erie Bayhawks for Nanna Egwu, and played in 2 games for the Bayhawks.
Massey was reacquired by the Drive from the player pool in February, to replace the spot left vacant by Ray McCallum, who had signed with the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, but was released upon McCallum’s return. Massey’s return comes just days after the Drive’s Jordan Crawford signed with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Massey will wear jersey number 17 while with the Drive after previously donning the numbers 9 and 25.
