GRFC handles Aquinas, 5-0

Tyler Fischer and Joe Broekhuizen scored as GRFC defeated Aquinas College in its last preseason action before the start of regular season play, 5-0.

“I was very pleased with our team’s performance tonight,” said head coach George Moni. “The players displayed a great attitude and winning mentality throughout the game. We showed high technical ability in possession and combined that with intuition and mobility off the ball.”

“This week our work was focused on increasing speed of play while building out of the back and quality distribution in the final third,” said Moni. “All the games we have played so far, we have dealt with opponents that were very disciplined tactically in low pressure defending. Today we displayed much more patience in build up, better service from the flanks, and obviously, better finishing.”

“Happy with the outcome but we have more work to do. Looking forward to next week.”

With the preseason now complete, GRFC looks ahead to next Friday, May 6, when regular season play begins against in-town opponent Ole Soccer Club. First kick for the opening match of the 2016 season is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
