Beer City Sports: GRFC update

Grand Rapids Football Club last week announced the signing of 2015 captain Tony Deakin.

Deakin was named Defender of the Year and the Players’ Player of the Year after last season.

“I am very excited to be back playing for GRFC next year” said Deakin. “This past summer it was great to see the city come out and support us and we want to give the fans an even better product next year. We will work very hard to bring a winning mentality to the pitch as well as good football that our supporters can be proud of”.

GRFC followed that up by signing Nick Abdoo, a native of Lowell, who was a stalwart on the wing for GRFC in 2015. He was named Midfielder of the Year.

“I’m beyond excited to play another season with GRFC” said Abdoo. “I can’t wait to get back on the field in 2016 to play in front of our great city. I think I can speak for all the players and coaches when I say that the support we got for the 2015 inaugural season was unbelievable. We’re going to work very hard to bring the best quality of soccer here to Grand Rapids”.

GRFC announced sponsors KCI and SpeakEZ Lounge are returning for the 2016 season.

Elmedin Zukic is returning for 2016. Zukic, who won the “Goal of the Year” award during the 2015 season for his free kick against Force FC, plays as a forward and will wear #9.

“I am really excited and honored to be back playing for GRFC again” said Zukic. “Last year was absolutely amazing to see how fast this city fell in love with the club. Now it’s our turn to return the love by training hard and playing great soccer that all our amazing fans can be proud of next season”.
