Cornerstone ring in New Year with first win of 2018 over UM-Dearborn

16 in a row as Golden Eagles ring up first win of 2018

Kyle Steigenga finished with a game-high 26 for Cornerstone as the Golden Eagles grabbed a 70-57 win against the 23rd-ranked UM-Dearborn Wolverines at Mol Arena on Wednesday night.

Steigenga helped CU get out to a quick 10-2 lead that escalated up to 24-12 just ten minutes. The lead would balloon to 20 points at the break.

Continuing their recent fad of picking up the defensive effort in the second half, CU pushed the lead to 25 before Dearborn end the game on a 17-2 run.

“We played a great first half but then got sloppy with the basketball in the second and turned it over too many times. Defensively we did a great job on their shooters” coach Kim Elders said after the game.

Saturday, the team hosts league-newcomer Rochester College at 3 p.m.
