When the 2016 NBA Developmental Draft starts at 2 p.m. today in New York, 182 pre-selected players are eligible to be drafted by one of the 22 teams.
Unlike past drafts, though, trades will not be permitted during the draft and only players signed to an NBADL standard contract are eligible for selection. Players selected in the six-round draft will join their NBA D-League team’s training camp alongside NBA affiliate players, returning and draft rights players and local tryout signees at their respective team camps. Teams must select players in each the first four rounds, but may opt out of picks in rounds five and six. Following the draft live is available by going to nba.com/dleague via the live draft board.
Last season, the Grand Rapids Drive selected five players, including Sam Thompson (#23/Ohio State) and Brett Comer (#7/Florida Gulf Coast).
Folks from Michigan may know these local college players who are available for selection:
Karrington Ward, 6-foot-5 guard from Eastern Michigan.
Rayshawn Simmons, 6-foot-4 guard from Central Michigan.
Max Hooper, 6-foot-6 guard form Oakland U.
Chris Fowler, 6-foot-1 guard from Central Michigan.
Shannon Brown, 6-foot-4 guard from Michigan State.
