Former Drive guard Bruce Massey taking his game to Nova Scotia

Former Grand Rapids Drive guard Bruce Massey signed with the Cape Breton Highlanders of the National Basketball League of Canada this week.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound native of Nashville played in college at Middle Tennessee State University and has suited up in the NBA G League for the past three seasons. In 63 career G League games, including 25 for the Drive, he averaged 5.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Massey is also the GM/point guard for the Blue Zoo, a team of MTSU alumni that competes in The Basketball Tournament every summer for a winner-take-all pot of $2-million.

Currently en route to Nova Scotia, Massey is expected to arrive in Sydney and join the team later this week. Cape Breton, 2-5, is currently in last place of the Atlantic Division. After losing their first four games, the Highlanders are 2-1 in their last three games. Teams play 40 regular season games.

The team released Damarcus Harrison to make room on the roster.

Massey has little time to get acquainted with his new teammates as the Highlanders open a 3-game home stand Sunday, then again Tuesday and Wednesday. You can tune in to NBL Canada on YouTube to watch.
