The Grand Rapids Fusion finally got to start their home schedule as the Windy City Blazers came to Beer City, USA. On the campus of Kuyper College, the Fusion welcomed their fans from the midwest including super fan Zachary Murphy and the Grand Rapids Sparks dance team.

The Fusion got off to a quick start behind Courtney Blackmore, who dropped nine quick points from behind the arc and led GR to a 29-19 lead midway through the first quarter. Odgra Bobo took charge and kept the heat on the Blazers, adding 14 points of his own in the opening 12 minutes. GR held a 38-29 lead after one quarter.

But it was the visiting team who set the tone in the second quarter. After the Fusion got out to a 16-point lead at 37-21, Christopher Elder and Ivan Smith took control of the floor for the Blazers. Being preached at about their lack of hustle on the defensive end, the Blazers took note and picked up the intensity and took a 66-60 lead at the half.

But it was the third quarter where the Blazers really made their move, outscoring the Fusion 29-23, and built a 95-83 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, it was a battle of attrition as the teams went to the foul line upwards of 20 times. The Blazers came away with the win, 117-112.

The Fusion are back in action next Saturday at Kuyper College against the Peoria Panthers. Game time is 3pm.
