The Grand Rapids Drive are back in action.
Earlier today at MSA Woodland, the Drive coaches and staff held an open tryout for 150 hopeful hoopers. With a full house of talented basketball players, the Drive and Detroit Pistons staffs ran drills, held scrimmages and kept an eye out for that “diamond in the rough”.
Last season, Chris Anderson from Muskegon Reeths-Puffer HS received an invitation to training camp after his breakout performance at the tryout. Later that year, he was in uniform for the Drive as they battled for their first NBA D-League (now NBA G League) playoff spot.
Anderson played in 39 games for the Drive in 2016-17, starting 19 for former head coach Rex Walters. He averaged 5.4 points and 4.9 rebounds while donning the #24 jersey for Grand Rapids.
