The heated rivalry between the Grand Rapids Fusion and the Kenosha Ballers of the Independent Basketball Association is back in full force.

Last weekend, the Fusion (0-1) traveled to the Cheese State to reengage their rivals, but it was the Ballers (1-0) who got the upper hand in a 130-123 win. It was a very physical game that got quite heated at times.

“Mr. Double-Double” DeLonzo Wilkins was ejected from the game after recording nine points and eight rebounds, receiving his second technical foul for complaining to the officials about the rough play. The Fusion also lost two players due to fouls.

Courtney Blackmore, who suffered a knee injury last season, returned to the court with the Fusion and led the team with 23 points, eight rebounds and three steals. “Top Flight” Kevin Grant poured in 22 points, pulled down six rebounds and distributed four assists. Veteran Maurice Benson tallied 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and 3 steals for coach Marco Wilkinson‘s team.

Grand Rapids will travel back to Wisconsin next weekend for a Saturday game against the Milwaukee Falcons and return home to Beer City, USA on April 8 to host the Windy City Blazers at Kuyper College.
