Danville, IL – GRCC’s men’s basketball team heads to the consolation bracket following a 73-81 loss to Louisburg College last night.

The Raiders fought back from a 12 point deficit early in the first half to take their first lead before the half. Despite a close score and several lead changes, GRCC couldn’t get enough shots to fall in to earn a win shooting 13-for-29 from the field in the second half while making only 1-of-10 from behind the arc.

Jeffrey Drake-Todd scored 20 points for the Raiders making 9-of-10 from the line while just 5-of -17 from the field.  Drake Todd added 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Zachary Pangborn finished the night with 18 points shooting 4-of-5 from behind the arc, while 6-of-11 overall.

Arthur Pearson contributed 14 points shooting 4-of-11 from the field and made 6-of-10 from the line.

Corey Jones finished the night one free throw shy of a double-double with 10 rebounds and 9 points shooting 4-of-6 from the field while making 1-of-2 from the line.

Maxwell Prendergast grabbed 9 rebounds but scored just one point.  Predergast was 1-for-4 from the line and 0-for-1 from the field.  Both Jones and Prendergast finished the night with 2 blocks.

Louisburg’s Jordan Oakley led the charge for his squad finishing with 23 points and 9 rebounds shooting 9-of-14 from the field.  Jaret Gassett finished the night with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Derek McKnight was the third highest scorer with 10 points.

By the numbers both teams struggled equally from the line with GRCC  having the advantage–65.6% to 63.6%–and  from three-point distance—25% to 22%–while shooting roughly identical percentages from the field with GRCC underperforming 42.1% and Louisburg shooting 42.4%.  Louisburg out-rebounded the Raiders 40 to 33 and finished the night with two fewer turnovers.

With the win Louisburg advances to the Semifinals where they’ll face South Suburban College at 9:30PM Friday for a chance to play for the National Championship.

The loss sends GRCC to the consolation bracket to face Niagara County at 4:00PM.  The winner of that contest will move on to play the winner of the Pima vs. Parkland contest for 5th place.
