LD Williams nears return to the court

Grand Rapids, MI — Seeing Brandon Jennings making his NBA D-League debut last night for the Grand Rapids Drive amid his rehabilitation from rupturing his Achilles tendon on Jan. 24th, injured Drive guard LD Williams knows it’s just a matter of time before he is back out on the court, too.

The 6-foot-4 guard from Wake Forest was all smiles after watching the Drive defeat the Iowa Energy 130-104 Saturday night at the DeltaPlex in front of a season-high crowd of 6,240 fans.

“I’ve just been cleared to run 5-on-5 drills,” Williams told me after the game, “I’m probably about a month away.” Coincidentally, about a month after Jennings’ injury, Williams ruptured his patella tendon in the Drive’s 140-99 win over the Delaware 87ers on Feb. 27th.

LD started 16 of 33 games averaging 10.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists over 27.1 minutes. He played three seasons with the Springfield Armor before the franchise relocated to Grand Rapids.
